The 40-year success story of the Do228 is being continued in Oberpfaffenhofen. With the new Do228 NXT, General Atomics AeroTec Systems is developing the most versatile aircraft in its class. Thanks to its diverse equipment options and special flight characteristics, the Do228 NXT is ideally suited for special missions and transport flights. During the Do228 NXT production, essential production steps are carried out in-house.
In-house production in Oberpfaffenhofen
The core production steps for the Do228 NXT and the final assembly of the aircraft are carried out by General Atomics AeroTec Systems in Oberpfaffenhofen. The company manufactures important components, including the control surfaces and wings, on site. The prototype phase of the wing production was successfully completed a few weeks ago, and series production of the Do228 NXT wings is now underway. GA-ATS is thus taking the next major step on the way to series production of the aircraft.
High quality standards through to reliable suppliers
For the production of the Do228 NXT, General Atomics AeroTec Systems is building strong and sustainable partnerships with its suppliers in order to produce a new aircraft to the highest quality standards through a stable and reliable supply chain. For this purpose, the company focuses on suppliers from Europe with corresponding European certification. The Do228 NXT thus exceeds the current quality requirements of the aviation industry and establishes a long-term presence in the heart of Europe.
The fuselages will be manufactured by the Potez Aéronautique in France and delivered to Oberpfaffenhofen, where GA-ATS will carry out the subsequent production steps. The Do228 NXT fuselages, of which an initial batch of 25 has already been ordered, are based on the successful and proven design of the Do228 series, which is characterized by its rectangular fuselage cross-section. This space-optimized design allows the cabin to be equipped in a variety of ways to suit the customer's individual requirements. This means that the Do228 NXT can be used in a wide range of applications, from special mission flights to passenger and cargo transportation.

The Do228 NXT is the most versatile aircraft in its class. Thanks to its optimized design, special flight characteristics (such as STOL capability) and various equipment options, the Do228 NXT can be used for a wide range of applications. With the launch of series production of the aircraft, General Atomics AeroTec Systems is responding to the needs of customers from all over the world and offering an aircraft for demanding special and transport missions.
The Do228 NXT can be used for environmental monitoring, coast guard and border protection, passenger transportation of up to 19 passengers, medical evacuation flights, research missions and cargo transport.
General Atomics AeroTec Systems at ILA 2024
From June 5 to 9, 2024, the ILA 2024, one of the most important trade fairs in the aerospace industry, will take place in Berlin. General Atomics AeroTec Systems will be exhibiting at booth 341 in hall 3 to showcase the Do228 NXT and the company's versatile Aircraft Services.
Visitors to the ILA 2024 will also have the opportunity to view a Do228 in the Aircraft Exhibition Area.
